Ok, DC fanboy nation. Here is the story you have been waiting for.

Over the weekend, on a cold Saturday afternoon, I went into Brooklyn to drop in on @da7e and shoot our latest video blog. We were looking for a comic book store to shoot in front of, but because of the sensitivity of the information, we didn’t want an overzealous fanboy spying on us as we shot and running away to leak our scoop on a forum or another site. DC headquarters located on 1700 Broadway was also out of the question because of the noise factor. So we went up to the rooftop and I think it worked out quite well.

After quite the difficult and lengthy investigation, we got to the bottom of what is going on with The Justice League. Warners is trying really hard to keep what’s going on under wraps because naturally, they want all the focus to be centered on successfully launching Man Of Steel. That film is an integral piece of The Justice League strategy. By now I’m sure you all heard on the fanboy news circuit, as I been also saying for a while, that Man Of Steel is not only awesome action packed thrill ride, but the superhero movie to beat this summer. Warners is thrilled. How thrilled? Watch the video. :)

Closing Thoughts that I didn’t include in video:

If you honestly think that Warners, especially with what they’re up against, aren’t going to move Heaven and Earth to try to make what I mentioned above happen, then you’re insane. They almost have no other choice.
David Goyer I couldn’t confirm his participation at press time, and it was holding up publishing the scoop. Hence, unconfirmed but my gut tells me most likely true. He is an important part of the equation and works quite well with this team. At the very least, he will most likely come up with a story. He has some other projects as a director he is trying to launch off the ground but like Michael Corleone once said, “Just when I thought I was out… they pull me back in!“
World’s Finest Again, unconfirmed. But certainly within the realm of possibility. Could we instead get just a team up between these two and then graduate to a Justice League movie? Anything is possible folks.
Debunkers Our track record with DC is impeccable. We broke Routh/Superman, Ledger/The Joker, the opening of The Dark Knight, etc., just to name a few. Remember, when we first broke that Goyer & Nolan were involved with Man Of Steel and Thomas Tull made a call over here to debunk us? So, um, how did that end up turning out? False? :)
But that’s not all cool kids!

Note: this is actually very cool news with Nolan's success on Batman and the already favorable reports about Man Of Steel , and Bale being a very good Batman this certainly doesn't hurt the possible success for the Justice League movie, lets hope for the best.

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1 With Geoff Johns

But how will JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA vary from JUSTICE LEAGUE?

“When I was thinking about whether or not a second Justice League title would work, essentially, I wanted to make sure that if I was going to write another team book it was had it's own point of view, its own purpose both creatively and in the bigger DC Universe,” Johns revealed to MTV GEEK. “So the Justice League has been positioned as like the A-list, the big iconic superheroes, and the Justice League of America is a very different team. As evident by the initial lineup, it's not a team of A-listers. I think the biggest A-lister on there is probably Green Arrow, who knows it and flaunts it a little on the team. But the team is built with potential and that's really what I wanted to dive into because I've always loved the big heroes, I love the big seven. Batman's great, Superman's great, but there is something that I've always really enjoyed about getting into characters that you might not have looked twice at. Green Lantern, before we relaunched it with our rebirth, I think we obviously expanded the fan base of the character. Working on JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA, I like delving into characters like Mr. Terrific and Doctor Midnight that people might not know very well, they might have heard of, but their judgment is a little quick. It's the same thing as Aquaman and so I wanted to create a team of characters that people would look at and wonder what the hell we are doing. In a good way hopefully. I wanted to create a group of characters that had potential and it's all about unlocking potential for me. The characters that I really enjoy writing and I gravitate towards are characters that might at first glance feel less than other superheroes and that's the whole point of the Justice League of America. It's all about finding characters who you have low expectations for and hopefully they surprise you both in story and in the universe. Designing this book to be all about finding the potential in you no matter who you are is what, for me, makes the book a lot of fun to work on.”

“JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA has its own big storyline and its own big world its creating that starts right off with issue #1 and delves into a darker corner of the DC Universe that we have yet to explore,” Johns teased to NEWSARAMA. “And that's going to be villains. That's a big piece of what the JLA is. It will play a big role in Trinity War, but a big role in the DC Universe after that as well. We've got it planned out through 2013 and beyond.”

Atlantis And America Go To War In "Justice League" #16

Losing their faith in the Justice League, the United States gears up to go to war with Atlantis, setting in motion a chain of events the will culminate with the creation of the Justice League of America.

Meanwhile, with his allegiance split between the League and his own people, Aquaman is barely able to hold his own against the Ocean Master as the Throne of Atlantis story arc heats up.

Justice League #16 was written by Geoff Johns. The art and cover are by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado respectively, with backup story art by Gary Frank.

DC's SUPERMAN Free Comic Book Day Release Revealed

When the initial list of Free Comic Book Day "Gold Sponsors" was revealed, DC's release was dubbed "top secret." On Friday, the contents were revealed: A reprint of 2006's Action Comics #844, the first part of the "Last Son" story co-written by Geoff Johns and Richard Donner, with art from Adam Kubert.

The issue will also feature a preview of the upcoming Superman series by writer Scott Snyder and artist (and DC co-publisher) Jim Lee.

The choice of story is timed both to the June 14 debut of the Man of Steel feature film, and a new collected edition of the "Last Son" story titled Superman: Last Son of Krypton, released earlier this month. "Last Son" was notable for the pairing of prominent DC writer Johns — now the company's chief creative officer — with Donner, who directed the 1978 Superman film and part of Superman II.

GUILLERMO DEL TORO CONFIRMS DC SHARED MOVIE UNIVERSE WITH SUPERMAN & BATMAN; WRITING OUTLINE FOR JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK

Director Guillermo Del Toro confirms the news that Warner Bros. is planning a shared DC Comics movie universe, and that it begins with Superman and Batman, something Cosmic Book News first let be known back in the beginning of June with the news that the Man of Steel would spearhead it all with a Justice League 2015 movie and new Batman reboot set for 2016 as well.

Speaking with IGN, Guillermo Del Toro gives an update about his "Justice League Dark" movie that is set to star the supernatural characters of the DC Comics Universe, with a working title of "Dark Universe."

Previously, "Justice League Dark," or "Heaven Sent," was rumored to be green lit by Warner Bros. as it was stated WB was so happy with Del Toro's upcoming epic science-fiction robot monster movie, Pacific Rim, that they gave it the go ahead.

However, chalk it up to internet fandom as different conflicting stories began to come about with Del Toro eventually stating that a "Justice League Dark" movie was talked about and that he would love to do it -- and that was basically it.

Now we get word from Del Toro that he is working on it, is writing the outline for "Justice League Dark," and has a writer.

"I'm working on it. I'm writing the outline and we're already in talks with a writer. A very, very good writer. People are probably going to be happy with who we have chosen. He accepted. I've been courting this writer, who I think is the perfect guy for this job. We're doing it. Hopefully it will happen. We don't know until they green light the movie."

Del Toro also clues us in on the members of the movie as he calls Swamp Thing a "rock star," and the Demon Etrigan another favorite who is "amazing." Constantine is mentioned with Del Toro noting the comic book version, as well as Deadman, the Spectre, Zatanna and Zatara, but Del Toro doesn't want to reveal more as it would give away plot details.

Guillermo Del Toro then lets it be known that Warner Bros. has been planning a shared movie universe for sometime, even previous to The Avengers movie.

"The movement for this happened before. They were already galvanized to launch Justice League and they were galvanized to make their universe cohesive."

Del Toro than states that he feels Warner Bros. is very happy with the new Superman movie, Man of Steel, and that Batman and Superman will be launching the new shared movie universe.

"What I feel now is that they are really, really, with Superman, they feel very, very confident with what they have. They are now feeling they have two pillars: Batman and Superman for the DC Universe. And tonally, they have a darker tone, more urban and sophisticated tone. There's a foundation that now they can build on it, a building, you know."

Cosmic Book News was also most recently told about plans for an Aquaman movie, Green Lantern 2 script details and character information about the Justice League movie.

Our DC Entertainment source sent us over a fresh batch of news on the Justice League movie and characters set to appear.

Previously our source revealed to us the first news on the Man of Steel spearheading a new DC shared movie universe, the Justice League 2015 movie, a new Batman reboot in 2016, a few scenes from the previous DC movies and most recently plans for an Aquaman movie.

Here is the latest:

• Superman is essentially the same character from Man of Steel, and Zack Snyder is consulting regarding the writing of the character.

• Batman: The strategist of the group. Batman doesn't really want to be involved with these super powered beings he considers too powerful. Easily the most complex written.

• Wonder Woman: She has only been in man's world a few short months. The Wonder Woman script Michael Goldenberg is developing will be set before the Justice League movie.

• Green Lantern: Will be Ryan Reynold's character from the Green Lantern movie, but will be freshly written with a more serious tone.

• Flash: The most popular hero in civilian eyes who loves media attention, but when called upon is very serious.

• Martian Manhunter: Alien who has lived on Earth in secret for over a hundred years who has knowledge of Darkseid and his reign.

• Aquaman: Will be the King of Atlantis who has a key role in the film.

• There will also be a heavy military presence in the film which in future rewrites could include characters featured in Man of Steel or even Amanda Waller (Angela Bassett) of which neither are included in the first draft.

• Alfred Pennyworth is in the film in a minor appearance.

• Lois Lane is also in the film in a cameo.

• Darkseid's Elite will be featured who go up against the Justice League early on in the film.

Just A Thought : New, Now, DC And Marvel

 

Just over a year ago DC Comics gave us there New 52 universe, a relaunch or reboot depending on how you would look at it. The DCU was only 5 years old in this new continuity but despite this some history remained some was wiped clean, some characters were relatively unchanged others were only the same in name. Now Marvel has there Marvel Now! event which seems on the surface to be a very similar to DC's, not so unique for Marvel to do this but, Marvel's Now! continuity though seems to be even more confusing. I'm not debating the fact that some characters needed a boost but why do a universe wide event if there was nothing wrong with certain ones. For example Green Lantern has been relatively unchanged, other then the addition of Simon Baz and a few tweaks, because it was doing well but Superman did need a boost lagging behind some of the other big guns. So why reboot everything, this is the question but when you look at the sales DC overall sales increased so of course Marvel felt it needed to do the same. But while sales have been better now for both is this really that good for the overall industry, or will they alienate long time fans who stuck it out over the years for the hope of bringing in new blood, so to speak, only time will tell. Just a thought.

DC Collectibles Launches New Line Of 'Injustice' 3 3/4" Action Figures

Adding to the excitement around next year’s launch of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s “Injustice: Gods Among Us” game, DC Collectibles will be releasing an all new line of highly detailed and articulated 3 3/4” action figures based on characters from the game.  The first round of two-pack sets will be released in April 2013 and will feature Green Arrow paired with Deathstroke, and Wonder Woman paired with Solomon Grundy. Each set costs $29.95.

The launch of this new line follows DC Collectibles successful run of 3 3/4” action figures as Con exclusives during 2012.  The Injustice line will be available broadly at comic book retailers and online at www.shopdccollectibles.com. JUSTICE LEAGUE MOVIE (2015) RUMORED TO HAVE DARKSEID AS VILLAIN

With Warner Bros. launching a Justice League movie in 2015, and with Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel set to star, it's being said that Darkseid is the villain.

Latino Review, known for a few Marvel spoilers here and there that seem to be true, says that after they did some snooping around, it was revealed to them that Darkseid is the villain of the Justice League movie.

If you are a fan of the comics, the use of Darkseid for the movie is a no-brainer as he's one of DC Comics' most powerful and infamous villains.

Darkseid was created by Jack Kirby and is a New God from the planet Apokolips that has vast powers with not only strength rivaling Superman's own, but a genius level (or beyond) intellect.

Interesting enough, a similar bad guy made his appearance in Joss Whedon's billion dollar blockbuster Marvel Studios movie, The Avengers, with Thanos, the Mad Titan.

Marvel Comics' Thanos is based on DC Comics' Darkseid.

It's also said that Thanos will be featured in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie as well as The Avengers 2, with The Avengers 2 set to take the Justice League movie head on in the Summer of 2015.

So will they both essentially be using the same villain?

We actually put it forth that Marvel Studios purposely put Thanos in the post-credit scene in The Avengers movie to - in essence - trump Warner Bros. use of Darkseid.

If you think about it, if the Justice League movie Darkseid resembles Thanos - at all - the general public might be left scratching their heads, as Thanos would have already been featured in three (if not more) movies.

Possibly a more plausible villain could be Braniac or how about both?
